How can dance therapy improve my mental health?
Feeling heavy, trapped, stuck?
Find freedom in your body at your own pace. Starting with as little movement as you can manage, we will work together to get you feeling comfortable in your body. Figure out how to lift yourself from the inside. When you are ready, we can address the underlying issues that have weighed you down for too long.
Been told to get moving?
If joining a gym or sports group sounds unmanageable, or you are not comfortable in your body, dance movement therapy is a noncompetitive, nonjudgemental way to get your whole body moving. Progress at your own pace to your choice of music. Release endorphins without weights, reps and timers. Strengthen your mind and your body together.
Overwhelmed?
When you want to run away, scream and throw things or cancel all commitments it's time to make a change. DMT provides time and space to understand the frustration, anxiety and let the sensations out without judgement. Maybe you need help with boundary setting or to learn to be kinder to yourself. Together we can figure out what to let go of and how.
Out of control - nobody listening?
Figure out how you can regain control by starting with your posture. What are you communicating when you enter the room? How do others see you and how do you relate to other people? Build confidence and find ways of communicating that serve you through playing with different ways of moving.
Don't feel like yourself?
Let your body become the compass, not the critic. Rediscover yourself from the inside out. There’s no wrong way to move when the goal is to feel. By moving in different ways you will find out what serves you and your values. Exploring different sensations and emotions through movement strengthens the connection between body and mind, leading to mastery. This is not performance. It’s permission... To be messy. To be curious. To be whole.
Can't see a way forward?
When your feelings don't align with what everyone is telling you, it's time to get creative and reframe. Exploring other perspectives help you to find clarity and meaning. Explore possibilities through movement and storytelling. Figure out your values and how they affect your priorities. Work out how to move on, step by step. Build confidence and find ways of communicating that serve you through playing with different ways of moving.
